Obra Masterpiece Cakes

Obra is run and managed by Maria Julie Prieto Morgan. Her passion for baking and cake decorating can be traced back to her childhood in the Philippines. Whenever her auntie baked and decorated her cakes, Julie always wanted to help but she was invariably told that she was too young to understand the complexities of baking. However, her curiosity and enthusiasm to learn was insatiable and she always got involved in clearing up so she could play with leftover ingredients which became the foundation of her skills in sugar art. Her interest and admiration of her mother’s embroidery skills was also a factor in establishing her love of art and the joy of creating something dainty and beautiful. Julie became fascinated by her mother’s fine embroidery skills and her attention to designs and colour combinations, which are equally applicable to cake decorating.

Following this early start in baking and design Julie studied for and was awarded a BSc in Education with a Major in Home Economics. She then taught art to primary school students and practical arts to high school students. She also baked for her family and friends for many years until, in June 2018, she took a great leap forward to turn her passion into a business by establishing Obra – Masterpiece Cakes.The word Obra being a Filipino word which implies an art masterpiece as in Obra Maestra.

The cakes Julie produces are made from the finest ingredients and baked fresh from her 5 star Food Hygiene Rated kitchen that is fully registered and insured. She has taken a great amount of time and care to develop her distinctive cake recipes in order to please the various pallets of cake lovers and to make them crave for more. Each cake is skilfully created with passion and great attention to detail. Julie is an award winning cake artist who is very proud of her achievement in winning a Bronze award in the Fantasy Flower Class at the prestigious Cake International Show in Birmingham, UK in November 2018.

To ensure that she remains up to date with the fast changing trends in cake baking and decorating, Julie regularly attends workshops and enrols in cake decorating schools tutored by local and international cake masters. She is committed to fulfil Obra – Masterpiece Cakes’ mission to design and create masterpiece cakes for all your memorable special occasions.
